Returned to the wild

Those of you who follow us on facebook and twitter will probably be familiar with Fera the little owl as she has become a fan favourite on our social media! Discovered in a barn when she was just a fledgling, Fera appeared to be struggling to survive on her own. A kind gentleman then brought her into the Haven to see what we could do for her.

Although it is impossible to know for sure, we believe her parents may have died whilst she was relying on them for food. Therefore we decided to provide her with the care she would have received from her family whilst preparing her for an eventual return to the wild. She spent her first few nights inside where our keepers could keep an eye on her and monitor her progress before she was moved to an outdoor aviary where she could spread her wings.

After several weeks at the Haven, our keepers were confident that Fera was ready for her release. We took her back to the farm where she was discovered and watched her return to where she belongs. At first, she appeared slightly overwhelmed by the space she had and spent a lot of her time on the roof of a barn, but we are certain that she will be able to thrive now that she is back in her natural habitat.

We wish you all the best, Fera! It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
