Thank you to everyone for your kind wishes, following our founder Don Walser’s heart attack in May. We’re delighted to report that Don is recovering extremely well, at home on the Isle of Wight.
He’s taking it easy – doctor’s orders – so while he’s putting his feet up, his Wood Turning Lodge at Monkey Haven will be transformed into an Ice Cream Shack for the summer. We hope that you’ll still be able to buy Don’s hand made owls in the Gift Shop, as he’ll be doing a bit of woodturning as he gets stronger and fitter, to support his recovery.
“I’ll be back in action as soon as the docs will let me”, says Don. “In the meantime, I’d like to thank all our lovely friends and supporters for your thoughts, messages and very touching cards. I might not be on duty in the Lodge for a bit, but if you see me walking around the park, then come and say hello!”
He adds: “I’d also like to thank the brilliant doctors and nurses who treated me, and in particular the crew of the air ambulance who flew me to Portsmouth for emergency treatment to remove a life threatening blood clot. Without them, I wouldn’t be here. They do a wonderful job for the Island and I hope that when I’m well again, I’ll be able to give something back and maybe organise a fundraiser. Watch this space!”
